Chapter 26

He lifted me without hesitation, one arm under my legs, the other around my back, and carried me to the bedroom like I was the only thing that ever made sense to him. He laid me down gently, then climbed in beside me and pulled me into him, wrapping me up like he was afraid I might slip away.

My face was in his hands, his forehead pressed to mine, his breath uneven as if everything he was holding back had finally broken free. Tears in his eyes as he looked at me.

“I love you,” he whispered, voice rough. “I love you so much it fucking scares me.”

My chest tightened, his words sinking deep.

“I need you to hear me,” he said, his thumb brushing my cheek. “I’m terrified of losing you, angel. Just the thought of it—” he swallowed hard, closing his eyes for a moment— “I can’t breathe when I think about it. I feel sick. I feel… lost. Like nothing would matter without you.”

He shook his head, forehead still resting against mine, eyes burning with too much truth. “I don’t care how hard shit gets. I don’t care how scared I am of the future, or how fucked my past is. I want you. Only you. I don’t ever want to wake up in a world where you’re not mine.”

His voice cracked as he spoke the last words. “I’m yours. Completely. I need you to believe that.”

Something inside me melted, something I had been holding onto out of fear. I exhaled as though I hadn’t truly breathed in hours, and he pulled me against him, our fingers locking together as if on instinct. We didn’t say anything else. We didn’t need to. The honesty hung between us, heavy and real.

And in that quiet, tangled up in each other, we finally slept—hearts racing, bodies warm, safe.

Later—hours and dreams later—Gio and I were in bed, curled around each other, the soft glow of the TV painting the room in lazy light. A half-eaten pizza sat on the nightstand, forgotten as we leaned into the quiet, our breaths mingling. Every so often, his eyes lifted from the screen just to find me, and I felt that familiar warmth in my chest.

“What?” I whispered, taking a bite of pizza.

“Nothing,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek. “You’re just… so beautiful, princess.”

The apartment hummed with mundane life—the TV, the distant sounds of the city, the crinkle of the pizza box—but the tension from earlier still lingered like a shadow. Then his phone buzzed. He rolled his eyes, answered quickly, and muttered under his breath.

“Did you find out who it was?” he asked

Javon,” he whispered, my eyes widened. If javon did something to him he is dead

He tensed, muttering something sharp. “Don’t worry about him,” he said, jaw tight. “Take the day off, Jay.”

Before I could breathe, there was a sharp knock at the door. Gio’s hand gripped my wrist, a quick squeeze, and I mouthed, Probably Anaya. He let go.

I opened the door. Javon was there, swaggering, smug, like he owned the place. He pushed inside before I could stop him.

“What do you want?” I asked, crossing my arms.

“Just checking on you,” he said, fake concern dripping from his words.

“First, why are you in my apartment? Second, cut the act,” I said firmly.

“About the breakup,” he said, stepping closer, reaching for my hand. I pulled it back.

That’s when I heard Gio behind me. No shirt. Tense. Cold. Every ounce of charm and calm gone, replaced by something sharp, dangerous, controlled.

“Why are you here?” Gio’s voice was ice under velvet.

“Why are you with her after she cheated on you?” Javon baited.

“I never cheated—” I began.

“Yes, you did. We all saw the picture,” Javon sneered.

Gio didn’t raise his voice. He stepped forward, grabbing Javon by the collar, his calm lethal. “No need,” he said, his tone cutting. “Leave.”

"You gonna be with her after she cheated?" he laughs

Gio grabs him by his neck and says "I know Javon, I know you did this Idiot" he lets go of him

"You either get the fuck out or I'll kill you right here, you're getting on my nerves," he says

"He is threatening me and you letting him accuse me of something I didn't do," he asked me

"Get the fuck out Javon," I said

"You guys are such idiots, first of all, Gio here is the biggest player. You think he loves you in reality he has probably done this with many women" All I hear is an "I'm sorry angel" from Gio

Next thing I know Javon on the floor "I'll give you one chance to leave" Gio says demanding now

He acts as if he were about to leave but he hits Gio in the face but he doesn't move

Fuck what can I do, if I go in the fight I'm fucked, I'll probably die with a punch

Gio hits him hard, I think he broke his bone. He hits him on the face and then grabs his neck "Gio stop" I say

And he looks at me and then at Javon and says "You come to her apartment, you try to talk to her, you send me pictures, if ever see you on the corner of the street you're a dead man you got it" he drops him

Javon looks at me and gets out holding his stomach I close the door

"Fucking shit, something new every day," I say looking back at Gio

"That call, was it to get information about who sent you that picture?" I asked and he nods

"Fuck Gio your cheek is gonna turn purple," I say walking towards him

"Baby I'm fine if you weren't here he would've died trust me," he said still angry but staying calm

I get ice and place it on his face "Let's keep watching the movie and let's finish the pizza I'm still hungry" he says

And I laugh "idiot," I say walking toward the room

"Your idiot," he says grabbing my waist and placing a kiss on my cheek

I sit down on the bed and Gio is lying down in between my legs both of us looking at the TV while I massage his hair, which he loves.
